Post Graduate Seminar in Family Emotional Process, Clergy Track I

This program was begun by the late Dr. Edwin H. Friedman in 1988. As Dr. Friedman's faculty, we are continuing the program. The focus of the seminar is on the three emotional systems: the clergy's family of origin, the parishioner or congregation family and the congregation, itself, as an emotional system. The days will be divided into theoretical and clinical presentations, videotapes, including videotapes of Dr. Friedman and clinical consultation. Small group consultation for the clergy's family of origin will occur on one afternoon, and for the parishioner family and congregation system on the other afternoons.

"The Paradoxical Brain"

Angelo Bolea PhD - January 11, 2019

9:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Ed Friedman spoke about paradox in life and paradox in therapy and said that paradox is much more than a technique of therapy but a deep part of life itself.

In this presentation, Dr. Bolea will speak to the idea of the brain as a "network of prevailing paradox." As such the Brain functions in a seemingly contradictory manner. The moment you decide to focus on one thing, another, sometimes many, an opposite idea surfaces that compete for attention and we change our minds.

For example, people say "no" to a habit they wish to change but it fights for "yes" which can often win out.

What is this perpetual "contradictory" pattern all about? Could it be what seems contradictory is the usual neurological organic way the Brain normally functions?

Let's meet in January and explore the Paradoxical Brain.

For those unfamiliar with Dr. Bolea, he is a neurospychologist and expert in neurofeedback who presents the latest in brain research as it relates to optimal functioning.

Dr. Bolea is a createive and gifted speaker. His knowledge of the brain and reletionships deepen one's understanding of Bowen Theory and Ed Friedman's leadership ideas.
