Post Graduate Seminar in Family Emotional Process, Clergy Track I

This program was begun by the late Dr. Edwin H. Friedman in 1988. As Dr. Friedman's faculty, we are continuing the program. The focus of the seminar is on the three emotional systems: the clergy's family of origin, the parishioner or congregation family and the congregation, itself, as an emotional system. The days will be divided into theoretical and clinical presentations, videotapes, including videotapes of Dr. Friedman and clinical consultation. Small group consultation for the clergy's family of origin will occur on one afternoon, and for the parishioner family and congregation system on the other afternoons.

Theory Day Open Session

"Optimal Aging:  The Brain and the Family"

Priscella Friesen - December 5, 2008

This presentation will explore theories of aging and natural processes of aging of the body/brain. It will also focus on Bowen theory and the aging process. What are the patterns of aging in the family? What are "emotional beliefs" about aging? What does Differentiation of Self have to do with it?

Ms. Friesen will elaborate using her work understanding the interplay of brain and family as well as the use of neurofeedback in differentiation of self. She is on faculty of The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, and previously the Director of Training. In 2005, Ms. Friesen opened a center call The Learning Space, a forum for people and organizations to learn and experience optimal functioning.

Ms. Friesen's solid, combined knowledge of Bowen Theory and brain function makes an important contribution in exploring the infuence of family emotional process on the evolution and functioning of the brain. This thinking makes new efforts toward differentiation possible.
